The Rivers of America Series for Young Readers

A set of nine volumes published as a subset of The Rivers of America Series by Holt, Rinehart and Winston between 1972 to 1970. Only three of these volumes were written by the original authors of the main series. The publisher targeted sales to school and public libraries. As a result, most of the copies which have been found and resold in the secondary markets have a "reinforced library binding". The format for each of the volumes was slightly larger than those in the original series. The photograph below provides a representation of the young readers series with one of the volumes from the main series included for size comparison purposes.

Many collectors attempting to collect entire main series will typically add the titles in the "young readers" series as well.

The spine is slightly rolled. In a near fine dust jacket with a price clipped jacket flap and the Holt Library Edition sticker on the spine. Although this is not an x-library copy. There is a 3 inch closed tear at the upper fore edge of the fly title page which has been repaired with archival tape. In a near fine dust jacket with a price clipped front flap and with a tiny nick to the lower edge of the front panel. One of the titles in the Rivers of America Series for young readers. Illustrated by Michael Hampshire. 89 pages containing an index, text and illustrations.

Carmer, Carl: The Susquehanna from New York to the Chesapeake. Champaign: Garrard Pub. Company, 1964. First Edition, First printing. An ex-library copy in very good+ condition in green cloth covered boards with black text on the spine. The bottom of the table of contents page is stamped "Discard" and there is a library pocket and date slip pasted to the rear free end page. In a very good+ dust jacket with a 1/8" chip at the base of the spine area and lightly rubbed at the folds to the flap. Although this is not one of the volumes in the Rivers of America for Young Adults, it is frequently added to a collection of same.
