Very good in its original, gilt decorated 1/4 cloth and paper covered boards with faded gilt text stamping on the spine and gilt text and decorations on the front board. A small quarto of 9 3/4 by 7 1/4 inches with rubbing and wear to the cloth at the ends of the spine and with the paper worn through at the tips of the boards and to some areas of the fore and lower edges of the boards. There is a prior owner's book plate on the front paste down and the same name and address of that owner on the second free end page with the date of 1911. With the exception of spots of foxing on the preliminaries the contents are clean, bright and tight in their binding. 182 pages of text illustrated with a tipped-on, color frontispiece and 29 tipped-on, color plates by Arthur Rackham each separated with printed tissue guards. Translated into English by Margaret Armour. This is volume II only which constitutes the second and third day of the trilogy of The Ring Of The Niblung. Printed by Ballantyne & Company LTD of London.     Ward, Lynd:  Madman's Drum.  New York: Jonathan Cape and Harrison Smith, Inc., (1930). Second Printing of November 1930. Very good in black cloth covered boards with a printed paper label on the spine. An octavo of 8 by 5 1/2 inches with the spine label tanned, the lower edge of the boards and backstrip show a faint waiter mark which did not penetrate into the end sheets and there are two dents in the middle of the fore edge of the front board. In a good, unclipped dust jacket which is well tanned and have a number of shallow chips at the ends of the spine area and the top edge of the front panel. Signed by the author, illustrator on the fly title page. Unpaginated, but with 118 pages. Other than the printed fly title, a publisher's statement, the title page and copyright page this title has no printed works. Instead, it is illustrated with woodcuts on each page performed by Lynd Ward. This is the second of Lynd Ward's six wordless titles.

    [Washington Irving]:  Miscellanies No. II Containing Abbotsford, and Newstead Abbey.  London: John Murray, 1835. First Edition, First printing. Good in the publisher's original 1/4 green cloth and drab brown paper covered boards with a paper label on the spine. The cloth at the front joint is worn through and the front hinge is starting and although the paper label on the spine is complete it is rubbed and worn at the edges and creased between the signatures of the pages. There are 3/4" and 1" stains (spots) on the end sheets possibly from some sort of protective covering having been attached to the end pages to protect the boards. 290 pages followed by a one page publisher's ad for "A Tour On The Prairies, by the Author of 'The Sketch-Book,' forming No. 1 of Miscellanies, by Washington Irving." (which was published in March, 1835.) The first British edition was published on May 1, 1835 preceding the first US edition by 30 days. (Langfeld/Blackburn, p. 34) This is state B according to Blanck with the ad noted above on page [291]. (BAL, 10141) The contents are "Irving's fond tribute to the homes of Walter Scott and Lord Byron." (Brian Jay Jones: Washington Irving An American Original.) Evidence exists in correspondence from the publisher that only 3,000 copies of the first edition were printed.

The set includes Penelope's English Experiences with 53 illustrations by Charles E. Brock and Penelope's Progress Being such extracts from the Commonplace Book of Penelope Hamilton as relate to her Experiences in Scotland with 55 illustrations by Charles E. Brock. In a very good- dust jacket with shallow chips at the ends of the spine area and at the fore corners of the panels and with a 1/4" deep chip at the lower edge of the front panel. Co-authored with Mary Findlater, Jane Findlater and Allan McAulay. 220 pages followed by two pages of ads. With six illustrations by Martin Justice. It originally "appeared anonymously as the ninth of a sequence of short stories by varous authors, in a volume entitled A House Part." The text received some "remodelling" for this "separate publication:. It is a humorous book whichdeals with finance and the stock market. 95 pages of text and illustrations by John Rae.
